Babcock varsity programmes get 75 per cent accreditation

BABCOCK University has been described as a pacesetter in the on-going Federal Government re-organisation in the educational sector in the country.

This comment was made at the weekend by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Kayode Makinde, while delivering an address during the thanksgiving service for accreditation of the university's programmes by National Universities Commission (NUC).

Makinde, who commended the effort of the Federal Government in regulating both academic and social standard of the universities in Nigeria, told the audience that the university presented 17 programmes for accreditation by the NUC and all were accredited with only four on the interim list.

He said that the institution can now embark on the second leg of its development, having recorded over 76 per cent accreditation of all its programmes instead of the 25 per cent benchmark of the NUC.

Explaining the form that the development will take, Makinde disclosed that the university will be introducing other undergraduate programmes in addition to the post-graduate programmes. He said that the programmes will not only be cost effective, time saving, but will also be directed to the needs of the nation.

The vice chancellor re-emphasised that quality was the watchword of Babcock University, adding that the institution was one of the few in Nigeria with a full fledged, functional and modern quality assurance department manned by a professor.

He disclosed that within the six months of his administration, the university has signed a pact with first class universities in Europe, America and Asia for academic staff and student exchange programmes.

Commenting on the thanksgiving service, the VC observed that instead of rolling drums to the streets for the achievements of the institution, it is very essential for his administration to dedicate the achievement to the glory of God and prayed for new challenges.
