Hillary Clinton to speak at Babcock University Foundation inauguration

Former American First Lady and presidential hopeful, Senator Hillary Clinton will speak on Powering the Vision: Creating a Future at the inauguration of Babcock University Foundation, scheduled for June 16 at Huston, Texas, United States of America (USA).

According to a statement by the university's Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Isaac Osuntade, special guests of honour would include the Executive governors of Ogun and Ondo State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Dr Olusegun Agagu. The Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Prof. George Obiozor and the Managing Director of Transcorp, Mr Tom Iseghohi are also expected at the event.

The vice chancellor of the university, Prof Kayode Makinde, according to the statement, said the foundation was conceived "as part of a composite strategy to mobilise the support needed to launch Babacock University to an unprecedented height of excellence, and to place it on the global register of providers of quality higher education."

He continued, "the first task of Babcock University Foundation Incorporated will be to mobilise funding for the establishment of Babcock University College of Health and Medical Sciences." The vice chancellor also noted that the multi-million dollar project "will be a model facility for medical education in Africa." The college is expected to be fully functional by September 2011 and would, Makinde affirmed, comprise the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.

A 23-member Board of Trustees has been constituted to manage the affairs of the foundation, the statement added.
