Borno buys N700m malaria drugs for councils

CHILDREN and pregnant women in Borno State have been listed as the major beneficiaries of the N700 million malaria drugs and diagnostic kits acquired by the state government for its 27 local councils.

The exercise is designed to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (UN-MDCs) on health by 2015.

Governor Kashim Shettima disclosed this yesterday in Maiduguri at the distribution of malaria drugs and kits at the Government House to the councils.

He said his administration was according the health sector priority in line with UN-MDGs target to eradicate malaria in communities in the state.

Shettima, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha, said with the distribution of the drugs and kits, the rate of “maternal and child” mortality in rural centres would drop by 75 per cent in 2014.
