UNIDENTIFIED gunmen yesterday killed two policemen who were on foot patrol along Afikpo Street in Mile One Diobu, Port Harcourt.

It was learnt that the armed men suddenly opened fire on the policemen who never anticipated any attack, killing them on the spot.

The incident which occurred at about 6 a.m. on  Wednesday caused pandemonium in the area as residents scampered for safety.

The identities of the killed policemen as at the time of filing this report were not released by the state police command.  The motive behind the killing was not also known.

It was learnt that the assailants took the arms of the slain officers and fled to an unknown destination after the dastard act.

The State Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO)  Mr. Benjamin Ugwuegbulam who confirmed the attack and death of the policemen described the act as “annoying and regrettable.”

He assured that the hoodlums would be apprehended, adding “nobody kills a policeman and goes free.”
